Former FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH Drummer JEREMY SPENCER Is Now A Reserve Police Officer

Jeremy Spencer, former drummer of heavy metal band FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, was recently sworn in as a Reserve Police Officer of the Rockport, Indiana Police Department by city Mayor Gay Ann Harney.

Chief of Police, Jason Overfield, said Spencer passed the Pre-Basic course of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and welcomed him to the department. Rockport is the county seat of Spencer County in southwest Indiana and Spencer grew up in neighboring Warrick County, where he was a graduate of Boonville High School ('91).

Spencer said: "I'm still a resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, but it's an honor to be able to come back to this area when I can and serve the community as a reserve police officer and help out my brothers."

In 2014, Jeremy released his autobiography, "Death Punch'd: Surviving Five Finger Death Punch's Metal Mayhem", which hit the Top 10 on the New York Times Celebrities Best Sellers list.

The now-46-year-old Spencer announced his departure from FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH last December. After sitting out the fall 2018 leg of the group's co-headlining tour with BREAKING BENJAMIN, Jeremy underwent a second back surgery and needed a significant amount of time to recover.

Responding to fan comments on Instagram, Jeremy wrote: "I have to get disc replacement surgery, so I can't do [the reserve police officer job] for a few months."

He revealed that he will undergo disc replacement surgery on Tuesday (June 11). "Once it heals, I begin. I'm a reserve so I will only be doing it sometimes," Spencer said.

Spencer told 14 News about his new role with the Rockport Police Department: "You just see the impact they have on everyone's life. It's so important." As for whether Jeremy will ever do anything else music-related, he said: "I am busy. I have other projects that I'm doing. Just because I'm no longer in the band didn't mean I retired."

At the time of his exit, Spencer said in a statement: "I've been playing drums since I was six years old. After years of the physicality leading to surgeries, I feel it's best to step down.

"I feel fortunate that my body has provided me with several decades of doing what I love: playing double-bass and shredding the drums. However, the rigorous physical wear and tear has worn down my body to the point where I feel I can no longer deliver a performance you great fans deserve and one that brings me satisfaction and joy. In addition, I feel the band deserves to get someone with fresh fire and energy — capable of delivering DEATH PUNCH music the way fans deserve."

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH recently confirmed that Charlie "The Engine" Engen is laying down the drum tracks for the band's eighth album, due later in the year. Engen made his live debut with FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH during the band's aforementioned fall 2018 tour with BREAKING BENJAMIN.
